The Preliminary Design For the Huai River Main Stream Sanhejian-Bengbu Waterway Regulation Project Passed With Flying Colors

The Preliminary Design For the Huai River Main Stream Sanhejian-Bengbu Waterway Regulation Project (“the Preliminary Design” in short)passed the review held by the Provincial Development and Reform Commission of Anhui.

The waterway, known as “one longitudinal” of the “one longitudinal (Beijing-Hangzhou Canal), two transverse (Yangtze River & Huai River)” in the high-grade waterway network stated in The National Inland Waterway and Port Layout Planning, and as “one transverse” of Anhui’s high-grade waterway network, which is described as “one longitudinal, two transverse, five streams and twenty-one lines”. It is the key project under the Ministry of Transport and in the 13th Five-Year-Plan of Anhui water transport, and is scheduled to be commenced within this year, as required by Anhui Provincial Government.

The Waterway (Sanhejian-bengbu section) Regulation Project will be designed by the First Waterway Design Division under Anhui Provincial Communications Survey & Design Institute Co., Ltd. The scope of work includes regulating a 220.5km waterway, with the 62km from Sanhejian to Huaigang to be designed following Grade III waterway standard for natural and canalized rivers; the 158.5km from Huaigang to Bengbu, following the Grade-II waterway, including waterway dredging, bank slope protection, 2 service areas, 5 anchorages, 7 sets of bridge anti-collision facilities, navigation mark and informationization works, total investment amounting to RMB 1.18 billion.

The Preliminary Design’s passing the review demonstrates that the proposed project has come to a new stage, which makes it possible to commence the work within this year.
